Cedars Cottage Resort is located close to some of Ontario's very best year-round recreation. If  country fairs, antique, craft, car shows is more along your line here are some of the local events. There is always something do in Grey Highlands.  Please check this page regularly for updates on seasonal events listed.

 Summer

O Canada, Celebrate Canada Day, July 1st with the family at Priceville Community Centre,  An all day event that is topped off with a great bang of fireworks.  There is also a great display at Meaford Harbour.

On July 4th & 5th, 2009 visit where the gold rush began, Eugenia Falls.  Come and take part in the Eugenia Gold Rush Days.  Visit the beautiful Eugenia Falls Conservation Park, try your luck at panning for gold.  There will be a Silent Auction, various craft vendors and entertainment.

Another attraction sure to get the kids in motion are the Blue Mountain Slide Rides. There's a mini-bobsled course and the popular water and tube slides. Be cool this summer!

Enjoy the weekly Movie Under the Stars at Blue Mountain. Friday nights in June & Wednesday and Friday nights in July & August for the latest and greatest movies on an outdoor inflatable movie screen. Bring a chair or blanket.  Movies start at dusk but come early to ensure a space. Admission is FREE!

A sure sign that Fall is coming is the beginning of the fall and agricultural fairs. The 151th Markdale Fall Fair, is August28th to 30, 2009

The Flesherton & District Farmers Market Saturday mornings at 8:00 a.m. held at Flesherton Arena. Runs from Victoria Day weekend to Thanksgiving.

 

Fall

Visit Meaford for The Annual Scarecrow Invasion starting mid September through to mid October, scarecrows will be everywhere.  There's even a Scarecrow Parade on Friday October 2nd, 2009,  at 6:00 p.m. followed by children's activities, food, karaoke contests and more at the Rotary Pavilion.

Apple Harvest Craft Show October 2nd, 3rd & 4th, 2009 in Meaford at the Meaford Arena and the Meaford Curling Club. This show has over 200 booths, with a wide spectrum of handcrafted items, pottery, tole painting, wind chimes, quilting, folk art, Belgian chocolates, stained glass, woodworking, apple products, knitting, sewing, baking, leather work, stuffed animals, painting, home and garden ornaments, natural soaps, maple syrup, spinning, handmade jewellery, decoys and weaving.  Plus many more, some of the artisans will be demonstrating their work.  This is the place to start and finish your Christmas shopping.  www.visitmeaford.ca/scarecrow

Autumn Leaves Studio Tour October 2nd, 3rd & 4th, 2009. Art and nature at their best renew energy, creativity and contentment. 19th  Annual Thornbury Winter Antiques Show is March 14th, 15th 2009 10am to 5pm  at the Beaver Valley Community Centre.

The Festival of Northern Lights in Owen Sound is a great evening out for the entire family.  This year the Festival begins November 20th, 2009 and runs thru to January 3rd, 2010. Walk along the banks of the Sydenham River and enjoy the wonderful magic of 210 lighted Christmas displays and more than 18 kilometres of light strings in downtown Owen Sound. http://festivallights.ca

Experience a different type of Santa Claus Parade in Meaford.  This Santa Claus Parade goes right through the main street of town at night.  The children will love it, the floats are decorated with lots of lights.  The parade is December 5th, 2009 and starts at 6:30 p.m.

 

Spring

Come see the beautiful quilts on display at  the Spring Quilt Show,  April 17th  10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., April 19th 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Meaford United Church. Featuring unique and beautiful quilts and decorator items from local quilters. Lunches available, raffles, door prizes.

Okay fishing fans, let the fun begin.  The 29th Annual Spring Trout Derby begins April 17th and runs until April 30th 2009. There is $8,000 in prizes to be won. This event is sponsored by the Georgian Triangle Anglers Association. For more information go to www.georgianfishing.com

Spring is a time of new life and new beginnings, and what better way to start than with flowers and gardens. The Markdale Garden Tour is in May, exact date TBA.  The Georgian Theatre Festival Meaford Garden Tour  is June 28th, 2009, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Although spring is a time of newness, for many it's time to bring out the old classics.  If you like old classic cars, the thin tired cars of the 20's, the big fin cars of the 50's, and the smaller, sleeker cars of the 60's, Cruise Nights at the Meaford Harbour is the place to go.  Every Tuesday night during June, July, August from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m you can join the Golden Town Cruisers and check out their classic cars, then enjoy an evening walk along the shore.
